Welcome

Frankel & Cohen is a Chicago area litigation firm representing individuals and businesses with particular concentration in employment law, civil rights and criminal defense.

Both partners began their careers at one of Chicago's largest and most important legal powerhouses, Mayer, Brown and Platt, and ultimately left to pursue public interest ideals. Mr. Frankel joined the Cook County Public Defenders Office and Mr. Cohen joined the Mandel Legal Aid Clinic at the University of Chicago. After a career that included both, private practice and public service, Scott J. Frankel and Robert R. Cohen founded Frankel & Cohen with the goal of providing the highest quality representation to individuals and businesses most in need.

  • Numerous acquittals for clients in first degree murder.
  • A commutation of death sentence from the Governor of Illinois.
  • A 5 year sentence on a murder case after State Attorney’s declines to pursue death penalty.
  • A civil rights case on behalf of an individual shot and paralyzed below the chest by an off-duty Sheriff's Deputy, which was the largest civil rights settlement in 2007 according to the Chicago Lawyer Survey of Settlements
  • A health care lawsuit to force hospitals to provide free healthcare to the uninsured
  • A lawsuit on behalf of laborers to obtain health insurance that had been unfairly denied.
  • Several discrimination and retaliation cases argued at the Illinois Human Rights Commission resulting in award of reinstatement and compensatory charges.
